Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are significant global health concerns, encompassing conditions such as atherosclerosis, arrhythmia, hypertension, hyperglycemia, and hyperlipidemia. In recent years, there has been extensive research focusing on the pharmacological effects of natural compounds as potential treatments for CVDs. Piceatannol, a natural polyphenolic compound, has garnered attention in this regard. Being a structural analogue of resveratrol, piceatannol exhibits a variety of biological activities, including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, stabilization of cell membrane potential, and inhibition of fat accumulation. This review summarizes the potential therapeutic applications and molecular mechanisms of piceatannol in CVDs.
